Ed is an engineer with expertise in hydraulic, hydrologic, hydropower, and fisheries engineering, gained through a wide range of projects across the western United States, Alaska, and Canada. His experience includes the design of spillways, sluice gates, high-pressure valves and outlet works, small hydropower facilities, water temperature control structures, energy dissipation structures, river intakes, reservoir intake and outlet structures, and river sediment control structures.
Ed has also designed numerous fish exclusion, guidance, screening, and bypass systems for low- and high-head dams and reservoirs, accommodating juvenile and adult salmonids at flows up to 5,000 cfs. His work extends to river engineering projects involving sedimentation and erosion management, debris flow control, fish passage barrier removal, channel restoration, habitat enhancement, and general fisheries engineering.
