Derek applies coastal and river geomorphology expertise to engineering studies and projects in BC, Yukon, Washington State, and internationally. He has developed strong project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills, successfully leading numerous multidisciplinary projects. His approach combines science-based methodology, innovative thinking, and a focus on client satisfaction, applied to projects ranging from rapid morphological assessments to multi-year studies for large infrastructure developments.
Derek’s work includes studying sediment dynamics, river channels, shorelines, tidal channel formation, tidal flat evolution, and the interactions between fluvial and coastal processes and human-made structures. He has contributed to large-scale investigations with Environmental Assessment components, including projects such as the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Project on the Fraser River Delta, BC, and has developed sustainable shoreline management solutions to address local challenges.
