Port of Matane Modernization and Coastal Assessment

Lasalle | NHC conducted an assessment of coastal conditions in and around the Port of Matane to support retrofitting of port facilities and maintain navigation in the harbour.

The study evaluated offshore wave and tidal conditions, wave transformation and harbour hydrodynamics, dilution and dispersion dynamics during dredging and dumping operations and their impact on water quality, and future maintenance dredging needs.

Lasalle | NHC also completed an inspection and preliminary design of maintenance work completed on the port’s western breakwater. These activities informed both existing conditions and projected conditions (post-retrofitting), supporting the design of the retrofit, including dredging works, construction of a new dock, and repair/retrofitting of the port’s western breakwater. The project also supported the development of an environmental impact assessment of the retrofitting and its related construction work, which included suspended matter management for environmental approvals. Additionally, Lasalle | NHC contributed to the navigation study for the Port of Matane.

Supported the sustainable modernization of the Port of Matane through integrated coastal, environmental, and navigation studies that improved infrastructure resilience, protected marine habitats, and ensured safe, efficient harbour operations for the future.
