Saint-Régis River Watershed Resilience Study

For several years, municipalities throughout the Saint-Régis River watershed have been affected by several water management issues, including bank erosion, flooding, and a lack of adequate drinking water. Lasalle | NHC was retained to identify and evaluate the types of solutions required in each municipality to meet their respective needs.

A subsequent phase of the work involved developing digital models to support several key project objectives. These models were used to simulate the watercourse at the watershed scale under both existing and future conditions, assess the hydraulic performance and benefits of proposed solutions, and establish a decision-making tool to help prioritize the most effective mitigation measures for implementation.

The complete drainage network and all recommended solutions were modelled. Climate data from the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium (PCIC) were integrated into the various models to validate the hydraulic benefits of these solutions in future climate. The modeled outcomes include the construction of bioretention basins, upgrades to existing retention basin outlets to regulate erosion control rainfall, bank stabilization, and runoff regulation for new developments.

Delivered a climate-resilient watershed management strategy that helps municipalities prioritize investments, reduce flooding and erosion risks, protect water resources, and support sustainable growth across the Saint-Régis River watershed for exiting and future climates.
