Green Infrastructure Design and Maintenance Guide
Over the past decade, the City of Quebec has advanced its climate adaptation and sustainable stormwater management objectives through the integration of green infrastructure into municipal development projects. This represents a major shift in the way these new developments are used to promote indirect water capture (with infiltration, retention, and treatment functions), replacing the traditional straight-to sewer-network approach.

Implementing green infrastructure at a city-wide scale requires coordinated planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring practices at several levels. As these solutions continue to evolve, municipalities must establish consistent practices and provide stakeholders with guidance to support effective implementation, inspection, and maintenance. A comprehensive framework is essential to ensure green infrastructure is integrated consistently on a large-scale throughout the territory.
To support this transition, the City of Québec retained Lasalle | NHC to develop a guide for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of green infrastructure systems. The guide provides a standardized framework that facilitates the implementation and operation of these structures and also allows City stakeholders to ensure a thorough understanding of these new practices and their expected beneficial impact on sewer system management, environmental protection, and urban beautification.
Established a city-wide framework for green infrastructure implementation, helping the City of Québec standardize best practices, improve stormwater management, strengthen climate resilience, and support more sustainable and attractive urban environments.
