Knut is an experienced river management specialist with over 30 years of expertise in flood and erosion risk management, infrastructure design, and project leadership. He has worked extensively across South Asia, Africa, and Europe, contributing to major initiatives funded by organizations such as the Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and KfW.

Much of Knut’s work has focused on riverbank protection solutions for the Brahmaputra River in Assam and Bangladesh, where he pioneered the use of geosynthetics for riverbank and coastal protection, including geotextile bag revetments. His contributions span feasibility studies, project design, and implementation of flood and riverbank erosion risk management projects, including the Assam Integrated Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Investment Project and the Padma Multipurpose Bridge in Bangladesh.

Knut has led multidisciplinary, multinational teams, developed policy frameworks, and guided complex engineering designs with a strong focus on sustainable and climate-resilient solutions. His technical leadership has advanced innovative riverbank protection technologies, morphological assessments, and integrated disaster risk management approaches, helping set new design standards in flood-prone regions.
