Phil is a recognized expert in coastal dynamics, nearshore oceanography, sediment transport, and geomorphology, providing strategic and technical leadership on multi-disciplinary projects to support design and environmental assessment. He has led numerous coastal and fluvial geohazard risk assessments and nature-based designs addressing erosion and flooding in a changing climate for both public and private sector clients.
Phil and his team have conducted data collection and numerical modelling studies across every ocean and most seas worldwide, earning awards for offshore health and safety performance. He serves on the executive of the Nature-based Coastal Solutions Community of Practice and is President of the Coastal Zone Canada Association.
